Critical Care Residency Program
The PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency program at The Mount Sinai Hospital/Touro College of Pharmacy is a 12-month, full-time training experience designed to develop the resident into a proficient critical care practitioner through a challenging and highly gratifying clinical and academic experience. This program encompasses a comprehensive and rigorous year that allows the resident to develop clinical knowledge as well as leadership, research, presentation, literature evaluation, and critical thinking skills necessary for a successful critical care pharmacy career. After completing the PGY-2 critical care residency, the individual would be prepared to work as an clinician for patient care positions; qualified for a faculty appointment in a college of pharmacy; and/or prepared to pursue board certification in Critical Care Pharmacotherapy.
Patient care activities will be conducted at the Mount Sinai Hospital with a portion of the residency year dedicated to a variety of teaching and scholarly activities at the Touro College of Pharmacy. The resident will be an integral part of a variety of critical care teams at The Mount Sinai Hospital. In addition, they will sit on critical care committees, participate in cardiac arrest response teams, and facilitate the experiential and didactic education of pharmacy students. The PGY-2 year will expand upon concepts mastered during their PGY-1 year. The resident will grow to become an expert in critical care pharmacotherapy by promoting the safe and effective use of medication regimens. Expected areas of competency at the completion of the PGY-2 year include caring for critically ill medical, surgical, neurological, cardiac, and transplant patients. The PGY-2 resident will also be expected to master concepts including pharmacokinetics, infectious diseases, toxicology, and nutrition.
