Mount Sinai Health System - Mount Sinai, Continuum Merger Closes

It's official: The Mount Sinai Medical Center and Continuum Health Partners completed their merger yesterday and are now the Mount Sinai Health System.

The new system comprises the Icahn School of Medicine and seven hospital campuses, as well as a network of ambulatory care centers. How big is big? The new system has 3,571 licensed beds, 138 operating rooms, 177,000 annual inpatient admissions, 1.2 million annual outpatient visits and about 35,000 employees. There are 2,784 full- and part-time doctors, and 3,783 voluntary doctors in the system, as well as some 2,000 residents and fellows. The Mount Sinai system will consolidate or relocate some services and merge the administrative and billing operations during the next year, Kenneth Davis, MD, president and chief executive of the Mount Sinai Health System, told Modern Healthcare.
