Eva A. Mistry, MBBS, MSCI, FAHA, Appointed Mount Sinai Health System Chair of Neurology
Internationally recognized vascular neurologist and clinical investigator will lead neurology department
The Mount Sinai Health System has appointed Eva A. Mistry, MBBS, MSCI, FAHA, an internationally recognized vascular neurologist and clinical investigator, as Chair of the Department of Neurology. Dr. Mistry will lead neurological care, research, and medical and graduate medical education across the Mount Sinai Health System and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Mistry’s research focuses on improving care and outcomes for patients with cerebrovascular disease, including stroke, through innovative clinical trial methods. Supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and industry partners, her work spans early- and late-phase drug and device development and efforts to address disparities in health care.
Dr. Mistry has served as the national Principal Investigator of five multicenter clinical trials and as Protocol Principal Investigator for the NIH/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke-funded StrokeNet Thrombectomy Endovascular Platform (STEP) trial, the first platform trial of its kind for patients with stroke. As Associate Director of the NIH StrokeNet National Coordinating Center, she helped guide stroke research across a national network of 27 regional centers and more than 300 participating sites.
As Chair of Neurology at Mount Sinai, Dr. Mistry will oversee comprehensive neurological care, research, and education and training for the next generation of neurologists. Her appointment strengthens Mount Sinai’s commitment to translating advances in neuroscience into innovative treatments and improved patient outcomes.
Dr. Mistry joins Mount Sinai from the University of Cincinnati, where she most recently served as Vice Chair of Research and Division Director of Vascular Neurology in the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine. She also directed the Gardner Neuroscience Institute’s Stroke Center of Excellence and the Ohio Valley NIH StrokeNet Regional Coordinating Center.
Dr. Mistry has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications in leading medical journals, including JAMA, The Lancet, and JAMA Neurology. She serves as a Senior Associate Editor for the American Heart Association’s journal Stroke and is a Fellow of the American Heart Association/Stroke Council.
Dr. Mistry has also contributed to national and international clinical guidelines, including the 2026 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Acute Stroke Guidelines, the 2025 American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Hypertension Guidelines, and the 2025 European Stroke Organisation Acute Stroke Blood Pressure Management Guidelines.

Dr. Mistry earned her medical degree from Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad, India. She completed her neurology residency at Houston Methodist Hospital and a fellowship in vascular neurology at the University of Cincinnati. She earned a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from Vanderbilt University, where she also served on the faculty.
Among her honors, Dr. Mistry received the 2026 American Heart Association Stroke Council Mid-Career Achievement Award, the Robert G. Siekert New Investigator Award from the American Heart Association, and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Faculty-to-Faculty Research Mentoring Award.
