Menopause, Reimagined

Menopause isn't just about hot flashes.

Sleep disruption, brain fog, anxiety, joint pain, heart palpitations, and feeling "not quite like yourself" can all be part of the menopausal transition. Yet many women spend years wondering what's happening or feeling unsure where to turn for answers.

In this episode of HERology, host Dr. Anu Lala is joined by fellow HERology co-hosts Drs. Joanne Stone and Anna Barbieri, along with board-certified OB-GYN and certified menopause specialist Dr. Candice Fraser, for an empowering conversation about rethinking menopause and perimenopause.

Most importantly, this conversation emphasizes what every woman deserves to hear: your health matters, your symptoms matter, and you deserve care that addresses the whole person.

Anna Barbieri: The way we take care of women, especially during this phase of life, tells us about how we value women.

Candice Fraser: Yeah.

Anna Barbieri: Right? And how women can value themselves. Mm. Your health is important. Yes. You matter.

Joanne Stone: Yeah.

Anna Barbieri: You matter to yourself, you matter to us, you matter to your community and the world- To society, yes ... out there.

Yeah. And that is why that wake-up call can reduce fear over this age too, and it has to start with this belief that we matter.

Anu Lala: Welcome to Herology, the podcast from the Mount Sinai Health System dedicated to advancing women's health through the lens of cutting edge science and compassionate care. I'm your host for today, Dr. Anu Lala, and our show is brought to you by the Carolyn Rowan Center for Women's Health and Wellness.

Today we're talking about menopause. For many women, the first signs aren't necessarily the ones that they've been expecting. We hear a lot about hot flashes and changes in your period, but what about [00:01:00] suddenly having trouble sleeping, heart palpitations, joint pain, brain fog, or just feeling different and wondering what's going on?

It can be particularly confusing because these changes often begin during perimenopause, sometimes years before a woman's period stops. I'm joined by my c- Herology co-hosts, Dr. JoAnne Stone and Dr. Anna Barbieri, and our guest today is Dr. Candice Frazier, an OBGYN and certified menopause specialist at the Carolyn Rowan Center for Women's Health and Wellness at Mount Sinai.
