Breast Surgery
The Breast Surgery service at Mount Sinai-Union Square is part of the Center of Excellence for Breast Cancer at the Mount Sinai Health System. We provide state-of-the-art care for benign and malignant conditions in a convenient downtown location.
Conditions We Treat
We treat a wide variety of breast conditions, including:
- Breast cancer (invasive ductal and lobular breast cancer)
- Ductal carcinoma in situ
- Abnormal breast biopsies, including atypia, radial scar, papilloma, and lobular carcinoma in situ
- Breast masses, including fibroadenomas and fibroepithelial lesions
We also treat women at increased risk of developing breast cancer (due to a family history of breast cancer or a mutation in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene or other gene).
We perform breast surgery for malignant conditions. These surgeries may include:
- Breast-conserving procedures that remove cancerous tissue while preserving most of the breast
- Mastectomies, which remove the entire breast
We use advanced surgical techniques such as hidden-scar lumpectomy and nipple-sparing mastectomy.
We work as part of a team that includes specialists in radiology, pathology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology. Together, we address all aspects of your care. We can also identify clinical trials that might be appropriate for you. Our goal is to give you the best possible results.
We are dedicated to shared decision-making and work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.
Most women with breast cancer lead full, healthy lives after treatment. Your breast cancer surgeon can answer your questions. We can tell you what to expect every step of the way.
For Your Appointment
To provide the best and most efficient care, we will need your medical information before your first visit. This includes documentation about tests and procedures you may have had, as well as radiology images and pathology slides. We will let you know how to send the information.
