Mount Sinai Again Partners With CityPickle
New court locations offer more opportunities for New Yorkers to enjoy pickleball
Mount Sinai Health System has partnered with New York City’s premier pickleball provider, CityPickle, for another year. In the coming months, Mount Sinai physicians will be out in the community offering their insight and expertise to help keep pickleball players of all ages safe and healthy at more locations than ever before.
Pickleball brings communities together while promoting physical and mental well-being and even helping boost longevity. Mount Sinai is the exclusive health care sponsor of CityPickle, and is now offering discounted pickleball clinics and interactive health education sessions led by its specialists at CityPickle Times Square, CityPickle Wollman Rink, CityPickle Long Island City, and CityPickle Brooklyn Bridge.
The new facilities in Times Square and Brooklyn offer expanded opportunities for New Yorkers of all skill levels to get out and play one of the fastest-growing sports in the country.
“Pickleball offers a wide range of physical health benefits. It promotes cardiovascular fitness, improves agility, and builds muscle strength via low-impact intensity,” said James Gladstone, MD, Chief of the Sports Medicine Service and Associate Professor of Orthopedics at the Icahn School of Medicine. “Equally important, pickleball can contribute to better mental well-being through shared experience and community. This is a fun partnership that we’re proud to be a part of.”
“Keeping physically active is essential for everyone and an important heart-healthy habit. Engaging in an activity such as pickleball is particularly beneficial for those with heart conditions and in an advanced age range to keep them moving and maintain their heart health,” says George D. Dangas, MD, PhD, Chief of Cardiology at Mount Sinai Queens. “A sport such as pickleball with rules and regulations not only benefits the body but also trains the brain and soul. We encourage our heart patients to participate in the sport for these reasons along with the significant cardiovascular benefits.”
"Pickleball is a wonderful way to make movement social, enjoyable, and sustainable across all ages. By expanding access citywide, CityPickle and Mount Sinai are helping New Yorkers improve cardiovascular health, maintain mobility, and reduce injury risk through safe, community-centered play,” says Joseph Herrera, DO, the Lucy G. Moses Professor in Rehabilitation Medicine and Chair of Rehabilitation Medicine and Human Performance for the Mount Sinai Health System. “I’m proud we can bring expert guidance and resources directly to these courts to keep players healthy and active.”
“Our partnership with Mount Sinai has been incredibly meaningful to CityPickle’s growth and mission of expanding access to pickleball across New York City,” said Erica Desai, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of CityPickle. “What makes pickleball so special is its ability to bring people together across generations and communities, while also supporting physical and mental wellness.”
“As we continue to grow throughout the five boroughs and beyond, we’re proud to partner with an institution like Mount Sinai that shares our commitment to health, education, and community impact,” said Mary Cannon, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of CityPickle. “Mount Sinai’s expertise has been invaluable as we introduce more New Yorkers to the sport and help players of all levels better understand the lasting benefits of staying active and connected through pickleball.”
