New Masters in Health Care Delivery Leadership Offered by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

With the goal of developing the knowledge and skills of future leaders for the nation’s hospitals and academic medical centers, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences announced the launch of their new Masters in Health Care Delivery Leadership, to be offered beginning in fall 2014.

“In this era of profound health care reform, we see the Masters in Health Care Delivery Leadership as a natural outgrowth of the pioneering initiatives in place across the Mount Sinai Health System, and a unique chance to reinforce Mount Sinai’s role at the center of academic research and medical education during this critical period of transformation,” said  Dennis S. Charney, MD, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and President for Academic Affairs, the Mount Sinai Health System.  “This program will deepen our students’ knowledge of the environmental, procedural, structural, and strategic factors involved in such change.”

Courses in this 21-month degree program will primarily be offered online, leveraging the vast resources available through the Mount Sinai Health System, one of the largest health systems in the United States, comprising seven hospital campuses and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  The program, offered through the school’s Department of Health Evidence and Policy, will provide students the competitive advantage required to provide strategic leadership in a changing landscape resulting from the federal Affordable Care Act, downward pricing pressures and the need to demonstrate increased quality outcomes.

Students will have access to faculty experts at a unique setting – one that combines The Mount Sinai Hospital and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  They will receive extensive leadership training and instruction in the following areas: change management, team-building, operations, finance, and mentorship through a dynamic online learning system that provides interaction with faculty and fellow students – and one which provides flexibility to accommodate busy schedules. This collaborative learning model, in addition to our onsite residency program, is designed to provide significant opportunity to further build and develop students’ professional networks.

Applicants will receive a comprehensive evaluation for admission based upon their academic record, professional experience, leadership capabilities, major accomplishments, and motivation.

The curriculum will comprise three main components:
· Major health care delivery system forces and disruptors;
· Evidence-based frameworks for strategic leadership and effective management of health care delivery; 
· Novel health care delivery models, including clinical and translational research innovations.
