Many people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) find adding supplements to their traditional MS treatments improves their symptoms. If patients aren’t getting enough nutrients in their diets there are six supplements to consider. Stephen Krieger, MD, a neurologist at the Corrine Goldsmith Dickinson Center for MS was published in the journal JAMA Neurology in March 2014. He said Vitamin D is a good supplement and also recommends B12, a vitamin necessary for making red blood cells and for the nervous system to function properly. “Vitamin B12 deficiency can produce neurological symptoms similar to what you see in people with MS,” said Dr. Krieger. If you suspect you might have a B12 deficiency, ask to be tested. But be aware that there's no evidence that supplementing with B12 will help reduce your MS symptoms if you’re not deficient in the vitamin. “Never launch into multiple vitamin therapies without first consulting with your neurologist,” advises Dr. Krieger.
