The process for an anatomical donation is fairly easy, according to Jo Wiederhorn, AMSNY President and CEO. “You should contact the medical school that you want to donate to, and I would say that you should donate to a medical school as they are licensed and go through a rigorous process to become licensed.” Jeffrey Laitman, PhD, director of anatomy and functional morphology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai said, “Other things could be helpful, and you can learn from models and computer programs, but the key of medicine as long as you will be treating real people, is going to be learning from real people.” Mark Baily, MD-PhD Student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai added that, “Everything up to this point is really conceptual – PowerPoint slides, drawings in books – this is the first time you see a tangible representation of humanity and how we’re going to treat them.”
