"Your Daytime Fatigue May Be A Sign Of Sleep Apnea" - Omar Burschtin, MD
Americans are famously sleep-deprived, with more than a quarter of the population reporting that they don't get enough sleep. Sleep apnea is estimated to affect more than 20 million Americans, though doctors say that 80 percent of those cases remain undiagnosed. The disorder is so common that just about everyone has some level of risk, but people who are overweight or who experience daytime sleepiness are considered at high risk. “Sleep apnea treatments can transform your quality of life. Patients report feeling better in myriad ways: they're more energized, and they have a better memory, better concentration, better performance at work, and a better mood,” said Omar Burschtin, MD, associate professor of medicine, pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
