The Mount Sinai Medical Center Becomes a 2009 EPA Region 2 Quality Award Recipient
This annual Environmental Protection Agency award honors individuals and organizations who have contributed significantly to the improvement of the environment.
The Mount Sinai Medical Center has been selected as a 2009 USEPA-Region 2 Environmental Quality Award recipient in the Non-Profit Organization, Environmental or Community Group category. This annual award honors individuals and organizations who have contributed significantly to improving the environment.
Mount Sinai submitted the award application in February, citing progress in the management of hazardous materials and the work of Dr Philip Landrigan, Professor and Chair of the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine and Director of the Children's Environmental Health Center at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, as it pertains to the Community and Preventive Medicine.

"We have created the nation's largest program in children's environmental health because it is urgently important to discover the preventable environmental causes of disease in America’s children and then to turn those discoveries into a blueprint for prevention."
The Award Ceremony took place on April 24, 2009, at the USEPA’s Regional Headquarters in Manhattan. The honor is given to those individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to improving the environment and public health in EPA Region 2, which covers New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and seven federally-recognized Indian Nations. The Agency receives nominations for the awards from both inside and outside EPA.
