The Avert system successfully reduced contrast media volume but failed to trim the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) following coronary angiography, according to a trial published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions. “Despite the absent effect on CI-AKI, CMV reduction is in general desirable and may be safely accomplished with the easy to use Avert system at low cost,” wrote lead author Roxana Mehran, MD, professor of medicine, cardiology, and director of Interventional Cardiovascular Research and Clinical Trials at the Zena and Michael A. Weiner Cardiovascular Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and colleagues.
