Jeffrey I. Mechanick, MD, Named President of American College of Endocrinology
Jeffrey I. Mechanick, MD, Clinical Professor of Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone Disease at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Director of Metabolic Support, The Mount Sinai Hospital, has been chosen as president of the American College of Endocrinology (ACE). The college is the educational and scientific arm of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), which is the largest association of clinical endocrinologists in the world and represents more than 7,000 board certified endocrinologists in the United States and abroad. Dr. Mechanick became president on May 29th and will hold the office for one year.
“I’m excited to have this opportunity to lead the talented and dedicated ACE Board of Trustees and my fellow officers to bring endocrine teaching and education to practicing endocrinologists,” said Dr. Mechanick, who received his MD degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, completed internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine, and completed his endocrine fellowship at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Mechanick is also Past President of the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists and a former member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN) Science Board. He recently completed his term as Editor-in-Chief of the PCFSN journal Elevate Health, and has served as Chair, Core International Committee, for the Transcultural Diabetes Nutrition Algorithm Working Group.

In 2011, Dr. Mechanick received the Health and Medicine Industry Impact Award and the Biology Alumnus Award from the University of Maryland. He was recently appointed Chair of the Board of Visitors of the College of Computer, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland. His current research interests are in nutrition and metabolic support, lifestyle and obesity medicine, and network analysis of complex systems. He has more than 290 publications, with over 60 chapters and 9 books, including the recently published Molecular Nutrition in 2015 and Lifestyle Medicine in 2016.
