Alison Snow, PhD, MSW, OSW-C, Senior Director of Oncology Social Work and Cancer Supportive Services at the Mount Sinai Health System, has been named the 2026 Oncology Social Worker of the Year by the Board of Oncology Social Work Certification (BOSWC). The honor recognizes certified oncology social workers who demonstrate exceptional leadership, professional service, and dedication to advancing cancer care through psychosocial support.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition and I’m incredibly grateful to represent the oncology social work community,” said Dr. Snow, who is also co-director of Mount Sinai’s Center of Excellence for Cancer Support Services. “Oncology social workers play a critical role in helping patients and families navigate the emotional, practical, and financial challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis. This award reflects the dedication of the incredible teams across our Health System I’ve had the privilege to work with, and I hope it continues to shine a light on the importance of psychosocial support as an essential part of comprehensive cancer care.”

Dr. Snow was selected as the inaugural recipient of the award through a national nomination and review process conducted by the BOSWC Board of Directors. The award highlights her sustained contributions to oncology social work and her commitment to supporting patients and families navigating the challenges of cancer.

“At Mount Sinai, our oncology social workers play a vital role in supporting patients and their families throughout every stage of cancer care,” said Jane Wallace, MS, Vice President, Mount Sinai Health System, Oncology and Therapeutic Infusion Services. “Alison has been instrumental in advancing compassionate, patient-centered support programs across our cancer centers. Her leadership and dedication to the field make her deeply deserving of this national recognition.”

Through the Center of Excellence for Cancer Support Services at Mount Sinai, oncology social workers provide counseling, care coordination, and resources that help patients cope with the psychological and social effects of cancer diagnosis and treatment. Under Dr. Snow’s leadership, Mount Sinai has continued to expand services that address the emotional well-being of patients while helping them navigate complex medical and financial systems.

“Social workers are essential members of the cancer care team, helping patients and families manage the profound life changes that come with a cancer diagnosis,” said Carol DeJesus, LCSW, CCM, Vice President for Care Transitions and Population Health, Mount Sinai Morningside. “Alison exemplifies the highest standards of our profession. Her work strengthens the support systems patients rely on and advances the role of oncology social work within our entire Health System.”

The Oncology Social Worker of the Year Award recognizes individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the oncology social work profession while promoting the value of certification. The award will be presented annually during Social Work Month in March.
