The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Mount Sinai Health System has been awarded the prestigious 2026 BeRAD Professionalism Award by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), one of the highest honors in the field of medical imaging and radiation therapy. This award recognizes the radiation therapy team’s outstanding commitment to professionalism, collaboration, and high-quality patient care. It is presented annually to just two institutions in the United States that demonstrate an exceptional culture of professionalism.

The BeRAD Professionalism Award recognizes health systems, hospitals, and clinics where radiation therapists and medical imaging professionals exemplify teamwork, accountability, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. Mount Sinai’s recognition places it among the nation’s leaders in delivering compassionate, high-quality cancer treatment.

“This award reflects the dedication, compassion, and teamwork that define our Radiation Oncology program,” said Kenneth Rosenzweig, MD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “Our radiation therapy team is committed not only to delivering the most advanced cancer treatments, but also to ensuring that every patient feels seen, supported, and cared for throughout their journey. This recognition affirms the culture we’ve built together.”

Mount Sinai’s Radiation Oncology team earned the recognition for its comprehensive and collaborative approach, which includes a strong culture of teamwork across physicians, radiation therapists, physicists, nurses, and support staff, as well as ongoing professional development and a deep commitment to patient-centered care.

“Professionalism is at the heart of everything we do, from how we support our patients to how we support one another as colleagues,” said Samantha Skubish, Chief Technical Director in the Department. “This award is especially meaningful because it reflects the everyday efforts of our entire team to create a respectful, compassionate, and high-performing environment.”

Mount Sinai’s Department of Radiation Oncology consists of more than 60 licensed and credentialed radiation therapists working across multiple locations in New York City. The department spans six clinical treatment sites, with 15 linear accelerators and seven simulators, and is continuing to expand with an MR Linac (Magnetic Resonance Imaging-guided Linear Accelerator) currently underway (treating first patients in early 2027). In addition to delivering advanced cancer care, the program supports a radiation therapy and medical dosimetry education program, as well as an internal MR education certificate.

"The BeRAD Professionalism program drives the mission and enhances the vision of ASRT. As a brand, the award’s purpose is to bring all modalities together as one service line team and to undeniably impress upon our patients, institutions, and communities the value we create. Mount Sinai has shown a level of professionalism honoring the standard we aim to represent,” said Brandon A. Smith, President, American Society of Radiologic Technologists Board of Directors.

As part of the award, representatives from Mount Sinai will be recognized at the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico in June. Mount Sinai will also receive a hallway banner to commemorate the achievement.
