Intensive Care

You or your loved one might need 24/7 monitoring after surgery or during a critical illness. At Mount Sinai West, we provide this level of care in our two intensive care units (ICUs). Specially trained and experienced doctors and nurses staff our ICUs. We use the most advanced equipment and techniques.

Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit: On this unit, we care for patients with:

  • Heavy bleeding (hemorrhage)
  • Low blood pressure (shock)
  • Respiratory and kidney failure
  • Sepsis

Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit: We help patients with brain tumors, ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, and traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. Our staff are experts in handling emergencies that involve the brain, spine, and nerves (called neurologic issues). We can perform:

  • Advanced brain imaging interpretation
  • Continuous electroencephalography to detect seizures
  • Intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Neurologic assessment
