Intensive Care at Mount Sinai West
Patients at Mount Sinai West who require 24/7 monitoring after surgery or during critical illness are cared for in one of two intensive care units. Our ICUs are staffed by physicians and nurses specially trained to treat the most serious health conditions. Our teams utilize the most advanced equipment and techniques to drive success and help our patients reach recovery.
Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (M/SICU): This unit cares for patients with critical illness and those who need close monitoring after surgery. The M/SICU team has special expertise in managing sepsis, shock, and hemorrhage, as well as respiratory and kidney failure.
Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU): Patients with brain tumors, ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, and traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries are all cared for here by experts in neurologic emergencies. Our teams have expertise in neurologic assessment, intracranial pressure monitoring, advanced brain imaging interpretation, and continuous electroencephalography for the detection of seizures.
