What Oula patients are saying:
“This was my first pregnancy, and I was feeling really torn about what kind of prenatal care I wanted. I was on both sides of the spectrum—wanting the extra support and tenderness that I felt came from doulas and midwives, but also knowing I wanted a medicated birth in a hospital. Finding Oula was such a blessing because I didn't have to choose. I got the extra emotional support I craved from the midwives, but the peace of mind knowing that an OB/GYN and Mount Sinai West was also at my disposal. Oula really helped bridge the gap between full midwives and full OB/GYN and made me feel like I could have it all."
– Abby Miller
“If you are looking for evidence-based medicine with the utmost empathy and personalized care, Oula is your place. The entire team from the front desk to the midwives and OB/GYNs are outstanding. My delivery had a complication, and I saw an Oula OB/GYN at the hospital who listened to my request and respected my birth plan. One of the midwives delivered our baby, and I can’t imagine a more calm, competent, and supportive team.”

Oula takes many insurances, including Medicaid. Check with your insurance provider to make sure we’re on their list.
What is a midwife?
A midwife is a trained health professional who specializes in caring for women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Midwives provide personalized care, focusing on and empowering women to make informed decisions about their care. They provide prenatal checkups, labor, and delivery, and support newborn care, and they often work in hospitals, birthing centers, or attend home births. At Mount Sinai West, midwives collaborate with obstetricians often, especially if medical complications arise.
How do Oula midwives and obstetricians work together?
Midwives lead most of the care throughout pregnancy and birth, focusing on low-intervention, evidence-based care. Obstetricians are available for consultations and step in if any medical complications arise or if a higher level of care is needed. This team approach ensures that you benefit from the nurturing model of midwifery care, with the added reassurance of obstetrician expertise when necessary—all within one seamless experience.
