"Flash Continuous-Glucose-Monitoring System Shows Real-World Benefits" - Megan Brooks
The Freestyle Libre continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system from Abbott appears to have significant benefits for patients with diabetes, according to several late-breaking research abstracts presented by Abbott researchers at the American Diabetes Association (ADA) annual meeting. "The Freestyle Libre is a great option for diabetics," said Nirali Shah, MD, assistant professor of medicine, endocrinology, diabetes and bone disease at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. "One of the biggest inconveniences for a diabetic patient is to have to consistently check their glucose levels with a fingerstick and this device helps reduce that," she said. "They have the ease to check their glucose levels
whenever and wherever they want and not need calibration for the machine either. For doctors, it definitely helps us gain more information of hypo and hyperglycemia through the day in order to make the best choice of therapy (medication or insulin) for the patient."
