Study Links Autism to Birth Inductions - Gina Loudon
According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, inducing or augmenting childbirth with drugs increased a baby’s risk of autism — a finding that experts said may be critical to better understanding who’s at risk for the condition. “It’s very likely that children who are predisposed to autism are more likely to experience complications around labor and delivery,” said Alexander Kolevzon, MD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. “It’s possible that children who are born to become autistic are more likely to require induced or augmented labor.”
