As summer heat and school vacation drive New Yorkers outside, it's also the peak time for deer ticks, best known as the carriers of Lyme disease. "Lyme disease is an infection caused by a particular kind of spiral-shaped bacteria, or spirochete, known as Borrelia burgdorferi," says Dr. Michael Tosi from The Mount Sinai Medical Center.
