Leona Kim-Schluger, MD - Endowed Professorship
RMTI clinician, educator and mentor named to distinguished endowed professorship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Dr. Leona Kim-Schluger, Associate Director of Mount Sinai’s Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute (RMTI), has been named the inaugural Sydney J. Zweig Professor of Medicine.
The Sydney J. Zweig Professorship was endowed by Barbara and Martin Zweig, PhD, as a gift in 2011 to the Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute (RMTI) to support the Zweig Family Center for Living Donation at Mount Sinai. The professorship is named after Dr. Zweig’s late father Sydney J. Zweig. The Zweig Family Center for Living Donation is one of the largest living donor programs in the United States, bringing together dedicated resources to specifically support those incredible people who consider donating one of their kidneys or a piece of their liver to another person. The Center focuses on providing outstanding medical, surgical, and psychological care to living donors.

Florman, Director of the Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute. “The endowed Sydney J. Zweig professorship signifies a major gift and investment in RMTI’s ongoing mission of teaching, research, and clinical care. We are extremely grateful to Barbara and Martin Zweig for making this position possible.”
Dr. Kim-Schluger has received many prestigious teaching awards and honors throughout her career. She is adored by her patients and is a favorite among the fellows, residents and medical students.
Dr. Kim-Schluger earned her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She went on to complete an internship in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, a residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, and a fellowship in Hepatology at Mount Sinai. She served Mount Sinai with distinction from 1994 through 2003, and earned The Mount Sinai Medical Center Spotlight Award in 2000 for her extraordinary contributions to the medical center. She returned to Mount Sinai in late 2009 as the Associate Director of the RMTI.
