The Mount Sinai Medical Center Named to Honor Roll of America’s Elite Hospitals By U.S. News and World Report
The Mount Sinai Medical Center ranks 16 out of nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide in the 2011-2012 “Best Hospitals” issue of U.S. News & World Report, and earns a spot on the “Honor Roll.”
The Mount Sinai Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation's top hospitals in the 2011-2012 "Best Hospitals" issue of U.S. News & World Report, ranking 16 out of nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide, and earning a spot on the U.S. News "Honor Roll" of America’s best hospitals. Mount Sinai scored highly in 12 of 16 specialties, improving in nine specialties over the 2010 rankings, and maintaining its strong standing in three other areas, including its No. 1 ranking in Geriatrics.

Mount Sinai retained its No. 5 ranking in Gastroenterology , and continued its remarkable improvement in Heart & Heart Surgery, which ranked 11 this year, up from 13 in 2010, and 41 in 2007. Mount Sinai also improved its year-to-year rankings in Cancer, Urology, Diabetes/Endocrinology, Kidney Disorders, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Ear, Nose & Throat, and Gynecology.
In the four specialties where rankings were based solely upon reputation, Rehabilitation rose to 14 from 16 last year, and Psychiatry maintained its strong position at 18.

Mount Sinai also ranked among the best hospitals in the New York metropolitan area. Covering 94 metro areas in the United States, the regional hospital rankings complement the national rankings by including hospitals with solid performance in one or more of the 16 specialties in the America’s Best Hospitals list.

In arriving at its rankings for 12 specialties, U.S. News & World Report analyzed 4,825 hospitals in the United States, taking into account each institution's reputation, mortality index, patient safety record, discharges, and other care-related factors, including nursing and technology. The rankings for four specialties, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, and Rheumatology were based on reputation alone, and reflect a three-year running average, which means the gains made this year will serve as a strong foundation through 2014.
