Infusion therapy is recommended when a patient needs medication than cannot be given by mouth, or must be introduced directly into the bloodstream. Infusion therapy delivers medication intravenously through a cannula-like needle, a catheter, or a port (metal or plastic disk placed under the skin that provides easier vein access). Infusion therapy can be used to provide chemotherapy for cancer conditions or other medications for non-cancerous conditions, in sessions that can be brief, or last a number of hours.

Our new and expanded outpatient Infusion Center at Mount Sinai West offers private treatment bays for all patients (convertible to open bays), with comfortable recliners, televisions, and a relaxing environment during your infusion treatment. In addition, our Infusion Center offers patient amenities such as music therapy, art, massage, and more.

All of our infusion nurses are both oncology and biotherapy certified, and are members of the Oncology Nursing Society. Our entire staff is committed to providing you with the highest level of compassionate, personal care, and we strive to make our infusion therapy services convenient for you and your family.

The Infusion Center at Mount Sinai West also offers our chemotherapy patients access to the DigniCap^® Scalp Cooling System, which can help prevent hair loss. DigniCap is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and consists of a silicone cap connected to a cooling system that protects the hair from the effects of chemotherapy. Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of this service.

Therapeutic Treatment

The Infusion Center at Mount Sinai West also offers therapeutic infusion for non-cancerous conditions, including:

• Anemia and other vitamin deficiencies
• Clotting disorders
• Gastrointestinal disorders, such as Crohn’s disease
• Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)
