"Hero Nurse Helps Save Man's Life at Long Island Movie Theater"
DeShawn Mason took his grandson to the movies and suddenly went into cardiac arrest. Shyvonne Allen, an off-duty nurse at South Nassau Communities Hospital realized what was occurring and began administering CPR. Shyvonne saved DeShawn’s life, and he was rushed to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where he was diagnosed with ventricular fibrillation. “She is exactly the kind of nurse we are proud to work with here at South Nassau. Our nurses are on the front lines of providing care and they do so in the communities we serve and in the hospital at bedside. We are so very proud of Shyvonne for her life-saving actions,” said Richard Murphy, president and CEO of South Nassau Communities Hospital. “Without the CPR and defibrillator treatments being administered in the field, he may not have made it,” said Lawrence Kanner, MD, cardiovascular disease specialist, South Nassau Communities Hospital.
