Treating Alcohol Addiction

  • (September 30, 2015)

Nearly 20 million American have a diagnosed alcohol use disorder, and 10% of children live with a parent with alcohol issues. Fixing this problem can save families from falling apart and there's been some real progress. "In my 25 years in this field, I've seen hundreds of positive stories. We often see the tragedies in the news because the countless successes are not newsworthy," said Paul Rinaldi, MD, director of the Addiction Institute of New York. "In the last 25 years, there's been a lot of research done and there's an evidence base that's been building. We have three FDA-approved medications and five or six psychosocial treatments, again with a great deal of evidence behind them."
