Dr. Shannon Babineau: “Presidential Summit on Concussions”
In a first-of-its-kind effort to protect youth brain injuries, President Obama held a concussion summit, bringing together young athletes, parents, coaches and medical experts to discuss concussion, a condition that can have longer lasting effects than originally suspected. “We’ve become more aware that concussions cause injury and that it’s not just something that you walk off and get better from instantly,” said Shannon Babineau, MD, Pediatric Headache Specialist at The Mount Sinai Hospital. “We still don’t know the best way to treat kids after they’ve had a concussion to help speed their recovery and help make sure that they don’t have long-lasting injury, so I really feel like we need a lot of research in that area.” Learn more
