New Ways to Train Your Brain
BrainCore therapy is a non-invasive neuro-feedback technique that proponents claim allows patients to train their brains to establish new connections that help break the cycle of depression, insomnia and certain types of pain. Some experts question whether it’s necessary to go to a physician’s office, which may or may not be covered by insurance, to train the brain to relax. Steven Wolf, MD, Director of Pediatric Epilepsy for the Mount Sinai Health System, explained that while this type of therapy may work for some patients, others could see similar results through meditation or yoga. “If you find something that works for you to get some kind of mindfulness, some kind of meditation, some kind of biofeedback, it is wonderful, but do you have to go to a doctor’s office to do it? I don’t know. I don’t think so,” said Dr. Wolf.
