Mount Sinai Health System Appoints Bethany Slater, MD, MBA, as Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery
Renowned laparoscopy expert to lead innovation and excellence in children’s care
The Mount Sinai Health System has appointed Bethany Slater, MD, MBA, as Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital and Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, effective Wednesday, October 1.
Dr. Slater will focus on advancing surgical excellence, expanding the use of minimally invasive techniques, and enhancing multidisciplinary care for children and families.
Dr. Slater is highly regarded for her skill in minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery, which allows children to recover faster and experience less postoperative pain through smaller incisions. Her clinical and research interests include anorectal and congenital malformations, chest wall deformities, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and neonatal surgery.
Dr. Slater attended medical school at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and completed her residency in Surgery at Stanford University Hospital and fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. She brings extensive clinical expertise and leadership experience in caring for children with a broad range of congenital and acquired conditions to the role.

Dr. Slater emphasizes a multidisciplinary, family-centered approach, collaborating with pediatric specialists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and support staff to deliver comprehensive, personalized care. Her vision for the division includes expanding Mount Sinai’s pediatric surgical training and research programs to further strengthen its national leadership in pediatric surgery.
