After lung and breast cancer for women and prostate cancer for men, colon cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death. "Cancer is a collection of cells that grow out of control, typically forming a tumor mass," says Dr. Randall Holcombe from Mount Sinai. "With colon cancer, this uncontrolled growth starts in the colon, also known as the large intestine or large bowel."
