The Mount Sinai Hospital Ranked in Top 25 of Best Children’s Hospitals in Two Specialties by U.S. News and World Report
Mount Sinai’s Kravis Children’s Hospital is cited for excellence in pediatric gastroenterology and kidney disease.
For the first time, U.S. News & World Report has ranked The Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital among the best children’s hospitals in the country. In the 2010-11 edition of "America’s Best Children’s Hospitals," Mount Sinai ranked in the top 25, out of nearly 100 hospitals participating, in two key specialties: gastroenterology and kidney diseases.

Mount Sinai was ranked 25th in gastroenterology and 24th in kidney diseases, after having no specific rank in previous years. U.S. News & World Report partnered with the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) to conduct a 75-page online survey among 170 standalone pediatric centers or children’s hospitals within hospitals. Of the hospitals contacted, 96 provided information. The rankings are determined from three key criteria: reputation, patient outcomes, and care-related indicators such as infection-control programs, surgical volume, and nurse-patient ratio. Criteria specific to each specialty were liver transplant survival for gastroenterology and kidney transplant survival, biopsy complications, and dialysis management for kidney diseases.

The Mount Sinai Hospital ranked 19th nationally overall in the 2009-10 "America’s Best Hospitals" issue, with high scores in 11 of 16 specialties examined by U.S. News & World Report. Mount Sinai was named on the magazine’s elite list of "Honor Roll" hospitals.
