Leaders of accountable care organizations expressed frustration with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for creating unnecessary obstacles to ACOs' success, during a roundtable with reporters at the National Association of ACOs fall conference. “Some of CMS's recent policy moves around ACO regulation are counter-intuitive,” said Robert Fields, MD, MHA, senior vice president and chief medical officer for population health at the Mount Sinai Health System. He added, “If everyone agrees that ACOs have value and need to expand, then "too aggressive" a policy will prevent that from happening.”
