A little quality time with a sweet dog can go a long way when you’re undergoing cancer treatment, just ask Richard Marks. Richard has bone marrow cancer, he has to go to Mount Sinai for chemotherapy five days a month and spends several hours at the hospital each visit. The pooches of The Good Dog Foundation help make these hours spent getting chemo a whole lot easier. “You can hear the excitement in the air when the dog is around. There is research to show that having animal-assisted visits is helpful to patients going through cancer, in terms of lowering blood pressure, reducing anxiety, decreasing depression, and overall helping patients feel less isolated,” said Alison Snow, PhD, head of cancer support services for Mount Sinai Downtown.
