"NIMHD Director Dr. Eliseo Perez-Stable Presents Grand Rounds on April 8th"

Eliseo J. Perez-Stable, MD will present the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health’s April Grand Rounds. His presentation, entitled “Reducing Disparities in Health Outcomes: The NIMHD Agenda on Equity,” will define equity in the context of health, explore current best practices in addressing health disparities, and map out the agenda of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD).

Dr. Pérez-Stable is Director of the NIMHD at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He oversees the Institute’s $281 million budget to conduct and support research, training, research capacity and infrastructure development, public education, and information dissemination programs to improve minority health and reduce health disparities. NIMHD is the lead organization at NIH for planning, reviewing, coordinating, and evaluating minority health and health disparities research activities conducted by NIH Institutes and Centers. Dr. Pérez-Stable’s research interests have centered on improving the health of racial and ethnic minorities and underserved populations, advancing patient-centered care, improving cross-cultural communication skills among health care professionals, and promoting diversity in the biomedical research workforce. Recognized as a leader in Latino health care and disparities research, Dr. Pérez-Stable has spent more than 30 years leading research on smoking cessation and tobacco control policy in Latino populations in the United States and Latin America. Prior to becoming NIMHD Director, Dr. Pérez-Stable was a professor of medicine and chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine, at the University of California, San Francisco.

As part of the Mount Sinai Health System’s virtual campus, videoconferencing will be offered with the Beth Israel Medical Center’s Department of Family Medicine and the Mount Sinai-affiliated Mid-Hudson Family Practice Residency in Kingston, NY.

The event will be held from 8-9am on Friday, April 8th in Mount Sinai’s Hatch Auditorium in the Guggenheim Pavilion (1468 Madison Avenue), 2nd Floor. A light breakfast will be served at 7:30am.

Grand Rounds are open to all and occur on the second Friday of every month throughout the year.
