Jeanne Lenzer Presents Grand Rounds on June 13th

Jeanne Lenzer will present at the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health’s June Grand Rounds. Her presentation, entitled, “Why We Shouldn’t Trust Clinical Guidelines,” will examine the influence of conflicts of interest in clinical guidelines, identify warning signs of bias, and explore sources of clinical information that strive to eliminate bias from their databases.

Ms. Lenzer is a senior clinical policy analyst for the Institute for Family Health, a practicing physician associate, a former Knight Science Journalism fellow and an independent medical investigative journalist. She has written nearly 200 articles for the international medical journal, The BMJ. Her articles, reviews, and commentary have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Atlantic, The New Republic, Discover, Slate, The American Prospect, The Scientist, The (London) Independent, USA Today, Newsweek Japan, Mother Jones and many other outlets. She is currently working on a book about the juncture between money and medicine.

As part of the Mount Sinai Health System’s virtual campus, videoconferencing will be offered with the Beth Israel Medical Center’s Department of Family Medicine and the Mount Sinai-affiliated Mid Hudson Family Practice Residency in Kingston.

The event will be held from 8-9am on Friday, June 13th in Mount Sinai’s Hess Seminar Room A in the Hess Center for Science and Medicine (1470 Madison Avenue between 101st & 102nd St), 2nd floor. A light breakfast will be served at 7:45am.

Department of Family Medicine and Community Health Grand Rounds are supported with a generous donation from the Steven A. and Alexandra M. Cohen Foundation. They are open to all and occur on the second Friday of every month throughout the academic year.
