The Mount Sinai Medical Center Partners With USTA For Arthur Ashe Kids Day At The US Open August 24
Mount Sinai Is the Official Medical Provider for the USTA and the US Open; Alexis Chiang Colvin, MD, of Mount Sinai Is Chief Medical Officer of the USTA
The Mount Sinai Medical Center, the official medical provider for the United States Tennis Association and the US Open, is the official sponsor of Arthur Ashe Kids Day, the largest single-day tennis and entertainment event in the world, featuring international pop music stars and outstanding tennis players, including Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and Roger Federer.
The event on Saturday, August 24 commemorates Arthur Ashe, known for furthering social causes and as the only African American ever to win the men's singles titles at Wimbledon, the Australian Open and the US Open. Mount Sinai has distributed more than 100 free tickets to children through organizations including The Children's Aid Society and its East Harlem Center.
Mount Sinai doctors will be on hand as Mount Sinai promotes the health benefits of tennis and distributes information and tools from an information booth that will be open Saturday, and throughout the US Open from August 26 through September 9.
"We are proud to partner with the USTA, both during Arthur Ashe Kids Day and throughout the entire US Open, to help tennis professionals and enthusiasts to perform at their best," said Alexis Chiang Colvin, MD, Assistant Professor of Sports Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in the Leni and Peter W. May Department of Orthopaedics and Chief Medical Officer of the USTA and US Open.
As the exclusive medical services provider for the USTA, Mount Sinai's team of medical experts provides on-site clinical care for tennis professionals competing in the US Open, develops policies around injury prevention, and conducts educational outreach to promote the health benefits of the sport. In addition, Mount Sinai is the official medical provider of USTA Eastern, which has 50,000 members in New York, northern New Jersey and Greenwich, Connecticut. Each month, USTA Eastern will feature Mount Sinai Health Beat, an online feature covering tennis-related health and wellness issues.
Dr. Colvin and other Mount Sinai doctors will make live appearances at "The Mount Sinai Health Desk at the US Open" for videotaped interviews at noon daily from August 26-30 outdoors at the East Gate. The videos, on topics including injury prevention and treatment, will be posted nightly at http://www.usopen.org/en_US/interactive/video/index.html. Mount Sinai will also provide educational information about tennis and health on its website mountsinai.org.
The Mount Sinai Health Hub at the US Open
Visit the Mount Sinai booth on the East Plaza, directly across from the entrance to the Louis Armstrong Stadium at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Mount Sinai volunteers will provide free sunscreen and UV Sun Detector Wristbands, which tell users when to re-apply sunscreen – or when to get out of the sun. Visitors will also be invited to participate in a sunscreen usage survey – results of which will be posted online at http://www.usopen.org/en_US/interactive/video/index.html.
To help US Open visitors to locate primary care physicians and specialists who work for Mount Sinai, visitors will be able to download the "Find A Doctor" app, available at www.mountsinai.org/usopen The booth will be staffed during Tournament hours.
