"Three Major Advances in Multiple Sclerosis"
Fred Lublin, MD, Director of the Corinne Goldsmith Dickinson Center for Multiple Sclerosis at the Mount Sinai Health System, and Saunders Family Professor of Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, was asked to elaborate on advances in multiple sclerosis at the 29th Congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) in Copenhagen, Denmark. "With respect to the role of environmental agents in MS, there was a discussion of how the incidence of MS has increased and the gender frequency has changed, so MS is becoming more frequent in women than in men," said Dr. Lublin. "Because this has occurred relatively recently in time, it suggests that it can't be a genetic feature but rather an environmental feature."
