Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit employees receive Service Award from The Employee Recognition Committee
Cynthia Fernandez, RN, BSN, CCRN and Fany Lezama, Patient Care Associate, members of the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit, were honored by Mount Sinai.
The Employee Recognition Committee of The Mount Sinai Medical Center honors employees that are truly extraordinary and stand out among all others. Ms. Cynthia Fernandez, RN, BSN, CCRN and Ms. Fany Lezama, Patient Care Associate, both members of the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU), were honored at the June 1st ceremony for possessing model behavior. Both women are exceptional employees with positive, professional attitudes and both have unwavering dedication to their patients and patients’ families. We congratulate them on receiving the Mount Sinai Service Award.
Ms. Cynthia Fernandez, RN, BSN, CCRN traveled from the Philippines to work as a Registered Nurse in Mount Sinai Hospital twenty nine years ago. After three decades of service, Ms. Fernandez continues to set a high standard of excellence in Nursing. Ms. Fernandez serves as a mentor to many in the NSICU, but she continues to learn from everyone, remaining open to new ideas and alternate methods of nursing care. The environment of the NSICU can be stressful for patients’ families, but Ms. Fernandez is able to calm fears and make everyone feel at ease. Her colleagues report that her patience is unwavering, that is impossible to tell whether it is her first or fifth or twelfth hour in a shift because of her upbeat attitude. She is helpful and resourceful and an asset to the NSICU.
Ms. Fany Lezama joined the NSICU nursing team in March 2008. She made the transition from the role of a Support Associate to Patient Care Associate in the critical care setting. Ms. Lezama is known for her excellent work ethic and her exceptional compassion for the patients and their families. Ms. Lezama has outstanding organizational skills and is tireless in her efforts to support all the nursing staff in caring for the patients. She has a keen ability to anticipate supplies and equipment needs for the patient bedside set-up and for assisting with admissions, transfers and preparing patients for off the floor procedures. She manages to support each nurse in performing all hygiene, turning and positioning and comfort needs for their patients.
Mount Sinai’s NSICU is one of only three in New York City that is run by United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties Board Certified neuro-intensivists. The NSICU is adjacent to the neurosurgical operating rooms and has 16 beds for patients with neurosurgical or neurological diagnoses, as well as some ENT and orthopedic spine patients. Ms. Cynthia Fernandez, RN, BSN, CCRN and Ms. Fany Lezama are instrumental to the operational success of the NSICU.
