The large baby boomer population is aging quickly, which means an increased number of patients with back pain and spinal degeneration. However, these patients expect to remain active longer, which requires more rigorous treatment. Patients who might have been able to manage pain with medication or physical therapy in the past now need surgeries to sustain their normal, active routine.
