Labor and Birth

At The Steven and Alexandra Cohen Center for Labor and Birth, we recognize the significance of your special day. We strive to provide exceptional care. Our 15,000-square-foot facility is on the second floor of the Klingenstein Pavilion within The Jo Carole and Ronald S. Lauder Center for Maternity Care. We have renovated this space to enhance your experience. It now offers an advanced command center for our care team and a central hub for monitoring and assistance, which improve our efficiency. This helps us provide you with even better care.

The labor and birth center features 16 spacious birthing rooms. Most of our rooms offer serene views of Central Park. Each room has an on-call nurse system, an electronic fetal monitoring machine, a comfortable sofa for your partner, and a flat-screen TV. The rooms also have wireless fetal monitoring and nitrous oxide to ensure effective pain management. We hope these rooms will support a peaceful environment and make your birthing experience as pleasant and memorable as possible.

Security is important to us—and you. Your baby will wear an ID band that matches yours and your support person’s, plus an ankle bracelet that will alert us if your baby leaves the postpartum unit.

We want to provide as much support as possible. We have peanut balls, which can help with positioning while you labor and may even shorten the process. If you need it, we have a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit and four private surveillance rooms for after childbirth. These ensure comprehensive care for both you and your baby.

We are committed to making you feel comfortable and supported every step of the way.
