Postdoctoral Fellows in the CBD Research Program

The CBD Research Program focuses on the study and development of CBD as a potential treatment for opioid use disorder. We are seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to conduct NIH-funded research that uses innovative pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, neuroimaging, and clinical trial methodologies, as part of two ongoing protocols:

  1. Cannabidiol in the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder. The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate CBD as a potential medication to reduce craving and relapse in individuals with opioid use disorder. Prior experience in conducting human clinical research is required, as is knowledge of clinical psychiatric diagnostics and cognitive-behavioral assessment. Knowledge in experimental statistics and cognitive tasks programing using PsychoPy/E-Prime is a plus. Previous experience in advanced multivariate data analysis is advantageous but not required.
  2. Neuroimaging CBD Impacts on Heroin Craving. The purpose of this research is to study the effects of CBD on the brain using non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in individuals with opioid use disorder. Hands-on experience in analyzing functional neuroimaging is desirable. Sufficient knowledge in MatLab / Python / Perl / PowerShell scripting are of priority.

Responsibilities
Conduct pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, behavioral and/or clinical trials. Conduct clinical neuroimaging studies. Manage research assistants and clinical research coordinators. Assist in data acquisition, organization and quality control. Perform statistical analyses of behavioral data and functional neuroimaging (fMRI, resting BOLD, MRS) data. Prepare manuscripts. Present findings at national conferences and local seminars/meetings.

Qualifications
Candidates must have (or be nearing completion of) a PhD degree in neuroscience, clinical or social psychology, behavioral economics, computational neuroscience and/or a related discipline. They must take initiative, and have strong communications skills and research productivity, as well as the ability to work effectively in a diverse research environment.

These positions are available immediately. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Candidates can send their CV and statement of research interests to yasmin.hurd@mssm.edu.
