During the WPATH Conference, Jess Ting, MD, surgical director of Mount Sinai’s Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery and Miroslav Djordjevic, a Serbian urologist performed a live metoidioplasty at The Mount Sinai Hospital. According to Dr. Ting, "Mirov's secret is also that he is not afraid of anything - there are things he does in surgery, which other surgeons would never try.” Joshua Safer, MD, executive director of the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery at Mount Sinai and senior faculty of medicine, endocrinology, diabetes and bone disease at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai said, "Transgender surgery was recently a business and many surgeons had no motive to share new knowledge. We are trying to change that.” Zil Goldstein, NP, BSN, program director of the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery said, “I have worked with transgender people who have experienced sexual violence in homeless shelters because they were not allowed to use baths according to the genders they belong to."
