A dynamic 16-foot sculpture by the renowned American artist Joel Shapiro now stands in the lobby of the Leon and Norma Hess Center for Science and Medicine on the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai campus. Installed in June, the expressive, brightly colored sculpture in painted aluminum was a gift from Mount Sinai Trustee Arne Glimcher, who commissioned it for the Hess Center. “The people who come in here are coming for treatment, mostly cancer treatment. It’s a difficult moment. To come in here and have something lift you up, it’s so worth doing this,” said Mr Glimcher. He added, “I wanted to do something for the hospital that brought us up to a visual level.”
