Statement in Response to the Birthing Center at Mount Sinai West

The opportunity to experience natural, low-intervention delivery will continue to be available to all expectant mothers on our obstetrics units, including access to midwives should women wish to use them. We are renovating our Maternal Child Health unit at Mount Sinai West to add 13 new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds and 10 post-partum beds, and enhance post-partum services. While the three rooms that currently comprise the Birthing Center will no longer exist after December 2018, the opportunity to experience natural, low-intervention delivery will continue to be available to all expectant mothers on our obstetrics units.
