Dr. Max Gomez: "Food Allergies Could Make Children A Target For Bullies"

Kids are usually bullied because they are smarter, quieter, or look or behave differently, but having to avoid certain foods because of an allergy also makes them a target. A new study in the journal Pediatrics shows that nearly one-third of children with food allergies are bullied. Dr. Scott Sicherer from The Mount Sinai Medical Center, senior author on the study, said, "Food allergy is a vulnerability, just like the child who may not be as athletic as the next child or different in some other way. So the other children may be taking that as an area that they are going to pick on." Learn more
