Dr. Ira Bleiweiss: "Breast Biopsies Are A Crucial Step Before Diagnosis And Treatment"
Breast biopsies are done to check abnormal mammograms and other radiologic screening results. "Breast biopsies remove a sample of tissues or cells, which we then examine under a microscope in the laboratory," says Dr. Ira Bleiweiss from The Mount Sinai Medical Center. "We use biopsies to rule out or discover breast cancer and to identify what kind of cancer it is, which determines the treatment options."
