Mount Sinai Has 209 Physicians Named in New York Magazine’s "Best Doctors" Issue
Mount Sinai leads the New York metro area with the highest number of physicians named to the annual list.
The Mount Sinai Medical Center leads the New York metro area with the highest number of physicians named to New York magazine’s annual list of “Best Doctors.” Mount Sinai is distinguished by the 209 physicians, including those at affiliated institutions, who are listed. This number represents an increase of 17 percent over the 178 named to last year’s list. Mount Sinai physicians account for 18 percent of the total 1,144 New York metropolitan-area doctors on the list.
"Best Doctors" appeared in the June 13th issue of the magazine. Excluding affiliates, The Mount Sinai Medical Center maintained its strong position in the rankings with 135 physicians named, including three at Mount Sinai Queens.
Mount Sinai is distinguished not only by the number of physicians included in the annual list, but also by the fact that many of Mount Sinai’s physicians are featured across the multiple specialties reviewed. Mount Sinai physicians are featured in 48 of the 63 specialties reviewed including, cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular disease, child and adolescent psychiatry, dermatology, gastroenterology, geriatric medicine, gynecologic oncology, neurology, neuroradiology, occupational medicine, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, pediatrics, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, surgery, and urology.
Castle Connolly, a New York City research and information firm, determines the rankings based on a peer-review survey that asks 12,000 medical professionals to nominate the physicians who, in their judgment, are the best in their field and related fields.
Castle Connolly tabulates the results, vets the nominee pool, and selects the top 10 percent of the region’s physicians to be published in its annual guidebook, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area. For the past 14 years, Castle Connolly has been providing New York with a shorter version of this list for publication in the magazine.
