About Our Adult Liver Diseases, Liver/Bile Duct Surgery, and Liver Transplantation Program

The Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute (RMTI) at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City provides comprehensive, personalized treatment and compassionate care to people with a wide variety of liver/bile duct and pancreatic diseases, including cancers affecting these organs.

State-of-the-Art, Multidisciplinary Care

RMTI has a long and proven record of innovation and excellence in patient care, teaching, and research in liver/bile duct and pancreatic diseases. We bring together a multidisciplinary team of leaders in hepatology, hepatobiliary surgery, surgical oncology, nursing, anesthesiology, critical care, radiology, virology, genetics, pathologists, and transplant immunology. This interdisciplinary approach enables us to provide the best in patient care, using state-of-the-art medical, surgical, and imaging techniques, many of which we pioneered.

Our goal, first and foremost, is to comprehensively evaluate the needs of each patient and to develop an individualized treatment plan that leads to the best possible outcome. We emphasize timely treatment to help avoid advanced complications due to liver disease or liver/bile duct cancer.

In addition to our extensive experience in liver transplantation, we are leaders in providing alternative, state-of-the-art surgical treatments such as liver resection for liver/bile duct cancer, in which affected parts of the liver are removed rather than the whole organ. In many cases, we are able to perform liver resections using minimally invasive, laparoscopic techniques which require smaller incisions and can lead to faster recovery times.  We provide a full range of other innovative, minimally invasive treatment modalities such as radiofrequency ablation and transarterial chemoembolization as well.

Should transplantation be necessary, our patients can be confident they will receive optimal care at our multi-organ transplantation facility. An outstanding feature of our program is the superior continuum of care we offer. Patients are tracked by the same team of providers pre- and post-transplant.

The RMTI Advantage

When you choose RMTI, you not only gain access to the most up-to-date services available for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of liver diseases, you also gain access to the vast resources of Mount Sinai. This means that referrals to other physicians in multiple subspecialties and other treatment facilities within Mount Sinai can be quickly coordinated, if needed, thereby saving our patients’ time.

Our 24-hour Inter-Hospital Transfer Service and referral line makes it possible for critically ill patients to be transferred quickly to Mount Sinai for treatment. To contact our 24-hour Inter-Hospital Transfer Service and referral line, please call: 212-241-6467 or 800-867-4624.
