Fennessy Family Emergency Department at Mount Sinai South Nassau

We diagnose and treat serious illnesses and injuries at Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Fennessy Family Emergency Department in Oceanside, New York. Our doctors and nurses have special emergency training. They provide fast, expert care. We are here for you 24/7. We are designated as:

  • Level II Trauma Center: We have advanced technology and skilled specialists to perform emergency trauma procedures. We can help with people who have been hurt in car accidents, falls, and violence. This designation comes from the American College of Surgeons.
  • Stroke Center: We quickly assess and treat people having a stroke. This designation comes from the New York State Department of Health.

We also offer advanced emergency services. These include:

  • Heart issues: We are the only hospital on the South Shore that can perform angioplasty, widening blocked veins during a heart attack.
  • Breathing emergencies: We treat serious breathing and lung problems.
  • Adults and children: We diagnose and treat emergencies for all ages.
  • Mental health (psychiatric) emergency care: We help with many mental health issues. These include suicide attempts, substance abuse issues, depression, psychosis, violence, and other extreme changes in behavior.

Our Facilities

Our large ED is designed to get the care you need as quickly as possible. We offer:

  • Centralized nursing stations to closely monitor all patients
  • Bedside triage for quicker diagnosis
  • State-of-the-art trauma unit with advanced medical technologies, such as
    • Imaging system for quick and easy intubations
    • Equipment to manage airway issues
    • Machines to perform bronchoscopy procedures
    • Space for up to six patients at a time
  • On-site imaging equipment to give your doctor quick access to the results of any imaging tests we do.

Our Services

We want your experience to be as stress-free and comfortable as possible. We have a coordinator on site. They can answer questions, act as a go-between, and help you access all our resources.

To reduce your wait time, we have a unit for treating minor conditions and injuries. This includes cuts and abrasions, broken bones, fevers, flu, and other illnesses that are not life-threatening.

The Fennessy Family Emergency Department was named in recognition of Joseph J. Fennessy, the hospital’s former long-time board chair. The facility was made possible by a significant gift from the Fennessy family.
