Intensive Care

If you are very ill, injured, or have just had complex surgery, you may need advanced, round-the-clock care. We offer this in our Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Our brand new 40-bed ICU uses the latest technology and medical guidelines. We strive to keep you safe and provide the best possible outcome.

Our ICU experts, called intensivists, coordinate all your care. Your care team may include:

  • Residents
  • Advanced practice providers
  • Nurses

We also provide translation services and counseling support. We welcome your loved ones to join in making decisions and planning your treatment. We use proven care plans, track our results, and always look for ways to improve our care.

In addition, we are a teaching hospital within the Mount Sinai Health System, and we are proud to train the next generation of doctors.

Our Intensive Care Units

We have two types of ICUs:

Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Units: Here, we care for people with severe or life-threatening conditions. This includes:

  • Severe bleeding (called hemorrhage)
  • Shock and very low blood pressure
  • Sepsis and serious infections
  • Respiratory and kidney failure
  • Cancer-related critical illness
  • Recovery from complex surgical procedures such as bariatric surgery, vascular emergencies, open abdominal wounds, and neurologic emergencies

Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Units: Here we treat patients who have had open-heart or other major surgeries. Our expert team offers the latest in monitoring and life-support technologies.

Our Team and Hospital-Wide Critical Care Leadership

Our entire ICU team is trained to provide emergency care in life-threatening situations. They are certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support. Our nurses also have special training in intensive care and anesthesiology.

We also help treat patients around the hospital. We direct the Rapid Response Team and Difficult Airway Response Team. We respond to patients having strokes or heart issues. This helps us act quickly when patients need emergency care.
