Dr. Sam Gandy: “Senior Moments’ Don’t Seem to Lead to Dementia for Most”

Only about 20 percent of people who experience “senior moments” of forgetfulness, memory lapses and poor judgment will go on to development serious brain-related disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, according to a new German study. Two U.S. experts agreed that a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment is not something to be overly concerned about. “It is not a real disease. It’s a condition that may change,” said Sam Gandy, PhD, Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, and Associate Director of the Mount Sinai Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
